A Day (or Two) in the Life of Scott Hanno

Here we are on another Sunday and it sure has been a wet weekend at that ...... but I think that it is long overdue so it's all good. And at least I got the lawn mowed yesterday morning just in time for the first of the storms to move in and I think that the water should really help to green things up out there. But I didn't do all that much otherwise but that's ok as I did end up catching up on some much needed sleep.

I got back from St. Paul on Thursday and ended up setting off the house alarm when I walked in and the security company called while the system was calling them so they went to voice mail and never called me to confirm the alarm and ended up dispatching the police who showed up about 10 minutes later ..... that wasn't too much fun but think that I've got it covered now if that should happen again. At least I know that the system does work if I need it to, let's just hope that I don't end up needing it for real some day. And it was even a pretty good trip to and from Minnesota - both flights were right on time and I even got upgraded to first class on my way home so that was a nice surprise. The HITEC show was pretty cool too with lots of new toys and they are doing a heck of a lot with HD tv's and some day they say that we won't even both the Front Desk to check in and just head to our room. Overall I liked St. Paul and our two hotels there, it's not too big of a city but it's still a city and all of the buildings are connected by walkways to each other which would be a big plus in the winter.

I also ended up going to the Dulles Town Center this evening which is a great mall about five minutes from my house and I can't believe it but it's the first time that I've actually been there. I've got a swiss army watch that the battery has been dead in it for months and the last time it died I ended up mailing it away to have it replaced - but the mall had a kiosk that did it in 10 minutes or less and also got a new watch band for it and it's like a brand new watch ...... I almost ended up buying a new one a few times but you can't beat $12 and it's as good as new.
I also ended up doing some shopping at JCPenney's too and they were having one heck of a sale and probably should have bought more stuff.

Not too much else going on with me, my boss is on vacation for the next week and a half and I've got a meeting at the Holiday Inn on the Hill on Thursday. I'm also planning on taking off the July 3rd Monday which is only another week away so it will be very nice having a long four day weekend. I'm still not too sure what they have going on around here for the 4th but I'm sure that they have fireworks somewhere so I might have to find some somewhere. So I guess that is it for another week - all is well with me and I hope that it's the same for you. Talk with you later - have another great week.

Happy Dad's Day to all of you fathers out there! And I'm sorry for the delay in writing and I should have wrote something up while I was on the plane but I just got to St. Paul, MN where I will be spending the week. I ended up getting a mini-dvd player so I watched a movie for most of the trip and I was down to like my last five minutes of it before I had to turn it off for landing. And it's a lot cooler here than when I left DC as it was like 96' both yesterday and today and was pretty dang uncomfortable. I think that it's suppose to be in the mid-80's here all week and down to the high 60's at night which is just about perfect - and the funny thing is that I checked out the temps at my old home in PCB today and the high there was only like 84'. Hopefully by the time that I get home it will have cooled off some but I guess that I am going to have to wait and see to tell.

It wasn't too busy of a weekend again, I got the yard all done yesterday and also had an appointment for my semi-annual maintenance on my HVAC which took about an hour for the guy to do all of his things - but I'm not sure if it's the high temps or something that he did but I'm thinking that things aren't working as well as they were before he messed with it. I guess that I will need to wait until it cools off a little and see how it's working then but at least it's still cooling but seems to be running more than it used to (even when it was in the 90's a while back). My brother also called me on Friday night as his daughter was making a cross-country road trip from Seattle WA to Syracuse and they were looking for rooms driving down the highway ...... like I can be of any help with that! Otherwise he sounded like he was looking forward to having her moving back in with them ..... yeah right! And I guess that she is going to be moving back east while her husband goes to class somewhere else - it's a little too hard to follow sometimes.

Montie was kind of having a rough day today and also might have been the heat but I didn't feel too good about leaving him but didn't have much choice. One of the girls from work is going to pick him up and have him stay with her this week but she was in Philly visiting with her family and she didn't think that she would be home to pick him up until after mid-night tonight. I just hope that he holds it all together until I get back in a few days.

While I am here in St. Paul we have a revenue management class sponsored by the HSMIA that starts at 11am tomorrow and then goes all day, then I am back down at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Tuesday for the HITEC show (Hospitality Industry Technology exhibit Conference) which should be pretty cool as they are showcasing all of the latest and greatest in the world of technology and then I am going to visit with our two properties here (I'm staying at our Crowne Plaza) on Wednesday and then head home Thursday morning. So it should be a busy week at least - but we'll see how things go. And I guess that's it - it's going on 11pm here and that's 12 midnight my time and I'm beat so it'll be lights out real soon. Sunday, June 11th here and all is well with me today! Montie's has been having kind of having a hard time today and I'm not sure why - it's not like we did anything too strenuous yesterday to make him feel that way. But he's been having a hard time getting up and walking around but yesterday he was fine so with a little luck he'll be back to normal tomorrow. And I didn't do all that much this weekend and I was thinking that I wait all week for the weekend to arrive and then I don't end up doing all that much, hmmm. But I did get the lawn done and some more of my deck painted weeded a little bit of the planters and picked up some mulch at Home Depot. But I didn't get around to doing anything with the mulch other than to unload it from my car and into the garage.

The weather has been great too and both yesterday and today it was in the mid-70's and 50's at night and was nice and sunny both days although it did get the rain out of the way Friday evening. I also went to Walmart yesterday too and picked up a few things but the more that I go to that store the less that I like it - I don't know what it is but it's always a zoo there. Oh, I ended up buying a external hard drive the other day on E-Bay for $20 and the thing is pretty cool - it's 40 gig and is the size of a deck of cards but I got it as it's the only way that I can back up my work laptop and is kind of funny as the hard drive is the same size that is in that thing.

I just saw a commercial for a Wendy's frosty and now I want one. I've been hooked on the new McDonalds warm brownie and ice cream thing and have been eating those the last couple of weeks too. I really think that I need to go on a diet. I am traveling in the next couple of weeks and am headed to the HITEC show in Minneapolis for a few days and will also visit our hotels in St. Paul while I am there too. But the HITEC show should be really cool as it is an exhibit hall filled with the latest technology for the hospitality industry ...... I can just imagine what they'll have there and I'm sure that it will be pretty cool. And I have a meeting at one of our hotels in DC on Friday - well more like a lunch to go to to get all of our sales teams together from all of the hotels down there and that should be pretty interesting.

Other than that there isn't anything much going on with me, just the same ole same old ...... hopefully something more exciting is going on in your life! I guess that is about it for another day - take it easy and I will talk with you soon.

Dang, it seems like I had a heck of a busy weekend and didn't even get everything done. I ended up taking Montie to be groomed yesterday although they weren't too excited about my explanation for his coughing but they did it and guess that he had no major issues while he was there. I also ended up calling the Sears Home Repairman to fix the pool of water that has been gathering in my refrigerator for the last six months and he showed up at about 5pm and spent 45 minutes and all seems to be working perfectly with that again ....... but I won't mention what they charged just for labor! I had tried to fix it myself and knew that the drain had to be in there somewhere but I guess that I didn't take off enough parts to get to it but at least I now know how to do it if I ever need to do it again.

I then stained my back deck - well at least the floor but still need to do the railings but what a difference it made as it was all faded and dull but now it's looking like it's brand new wood and looks just great! I should have taken some before and after pictures but didn't but I guess that it is too late to be worrying about that. I was also a little worried about how the color was going to turn out but found an old can of stain in the garage that was like semi-transparent redwood and bought the same color - and I guess that was it as the railings now almost match the floor. And the railings aren't nearly as bad as the deck itself is so now it's almost all of the same color but I might put another coat on the floor and then do the railing at some point. I mowed the lawn and all that other good stuff - plus it finally rained on Friday evening and was long overdue so the lawn was loving it.

I also ended up going with Verizon's voice mail thingy as my answering machine hasn't been working correctly ever since I moved in and was finally wondering why I never had any messages - then I called my number and the thing doesn't even pick up! So that's all working just fine so give it a call and leave me a message! I also did some more switches and outlets today too - and dang if a three pole switch wasn't driving me crazy but thanks to a tutorial on the web they are now working just great - from both switches and I don't think that they were even working the way the should before.

The weather has been pretty great and today was another beauty, probably in the high 70's with a nice cool breeze and I figure that the rest of the week will probably follow suit. Montie is doing pretty good - at least he's no worse and I'll probably take him back to the vet again next weekend for another check up. I was suppose to have gone this weekend but it kind of sucks as all they do is listen to his heart and tell me he's the same - and then charge me $50 for the five minutes that I'm there. I also ended up watching Final Destination 2 on Friday night and then Wedding Crashers last night ...... that one was an ok movie but that guys nose kind of gets on my nerves.

And I guess that's about it for another day - June is here and the 4th of July is right around the corner ...... kind of liking those four day work weeks but last week sure did wear me out cramming five days worth of stuff into only four days. So I guess that I will be talking with you on another day and I hope that all is well with you!
