A Day (or Two) in the Life of Scott Hanno
Monday, September 30, 2002
Another Monday is done and that's always good, plus it wasn't even all that bad of a day. No tv arrived but I figured as much but it should only be a few more days. I just measured my entertainment center to make sure that my tv can go where that is now, and it's funny but it's just about the same size - but it'll all be screen in just a few more days. Still not sure what I'm going to do with my stereo yet, but guess that I need to find something other than the floor to set it on. Work went fine but business sucked over the weekend, in between the rumor of bad weather and a ton of noshows, this month is pretty much shot. I also started working on my "business plan" for the budget as it'll be due before I even know what hit me, even though no one has given me any direction as to when it might be due. I really can't believe how fast this month went by, seems like it was only yesterday and I was getting my reports ready for this month and I'm all ready doing it for next month ....... must be a budget month kind of thing.
I also got the nicest e-mail from a couple of friends from work and can't believe that they even remembered the anniversery of my Mom's passing, I even had to look up the actual date tonight as I wasn't quite sure ...... although I knew it was coming up and it was the same weekend that we kicked the butt of some Taliban. So, it was one year ago this Thursday, Friday by date but that was one Thursday that I won't soon forget - October 4th, 2001. But in the e-mail ...... and it still blows me away with their timing of it as they gave no indication they were working on anything - but it read something like this ....... actually it's word for word thanks to "cut and pasting" but I thought that it was worth sharing .......
THE SMALL TREE
I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had
just finished a rough first day on the job: a flat tire made him lose an
hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one ton truck
refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence.
On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward
the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of
the branches with both hands.
When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned
face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and
gave his wife a kiss. Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the
tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had
seen him do earlier.
"Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can't help having
troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't
belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them
up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of
them.
Then in the morning I pick them up again." "Funny thing is," he smiled,
"when I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there aren't nearly as
many as I remember hanging up the night before."
We have bought you a Sable Palm Tree in memory of your mom to be planted
at your house. I looked up a definition in the dictionary for "tree"
and found tree of life...We know that your mom is still with you today-
I can attest to that as early as this morning with the TV guide thing
and with how I will use it, the same way your mom did-
So, all you need to do is stop by the place, pick out what size you want
and then place a marker in the ground where the truck can get to, to
plant it for you- it does need to be near the water thing:)
I had not intended to send the above part but it was just sent to me and
thought that it went along w/ what Tania and I (Pamela) were trying to say-
Pretty darn special to have friends like that huh :?) It was a year ago this week, guess that I had been up there a week all ready sitting by her bedside waiting for her to get better. And now I'm all teary-eyed after doing that, but lets me think back to that time when I thought that something like that would never happen, only to have it happen so fast. I just thank God that he told me to go home when I did so that I got to spend a week with her before anything happened as it made it so much easier to let her go - knowing that that's where she wanted to be. And with that said I'm going to kick back and watch a little Crossing Jordan for a while, and then call it a night. Nite - and again, thanks for listening.

Evening to ya'll and it's sad to say that the weekend has come and gone all ready, didn't get much sleep this weekend either. But I did get the tile project finished up and my tile-guy did the front hallway and my bathroom both yesterday and today and it turned out just like the rest - it looks awesome. Still glad that I decided to do it and when I was paying off my contractor today he told me he normally charges about $500 more to do what he did for me, so all it all it was a pretty darn good deal. Not much else to report today though other than I got my house all back together, mopped my floor to get some of the grit off of it, did laundry, shopped for groceries and cleaned the rest of the house too. So I guess that all in all it was a pretty normal day.
I'm watching this new show on NBC called Boomtown, guess that would have to be LA but I'll have to see how I like it, starting out a little hard to follow. It's the show that shows the same crime from like 5 or 10 different views, what the purpose of that I'm not sure. I'll give it a shot though and see how it turns out. It's picking up though, so it might be all right.
Not much else to report, should be a pretty normal week but I've really got to get working on the 2003 Marketing Plan, so that will probably be my homework for the week. I was messing with my webcam on my page and have it where it refreshes every 10 seconds and have the cam that does the same thing, but don't check now as I've got to have it turned on for it to work. And I have nothing else to say so I guess that's a que to end this now, so ta-ta till another day. Good nighto from the Scotto :o)
and ps ....... I added a link for TV Guide to the left of my pages, it'll ask you your zip code and cable system the first time but should remember it after that - so now you'll know what's on without ever leaving my site :)~

Hey all, what's up? It was a gorgeous weather day around these parts and was in the mid-80's during the day and is now in the low 70's this evening - wish that it was like this year round. And I just got back from the movies and went and saw Sweet Home Alabama, I'd recommend it even though it was kind of a "chick movie" but it had some funny parts and made some pretty good fun about AL ..... deep fried pickle type stuff if you know what I mean. And they featured the Skynard song (of course) and I got it stuck in my head so I had to download it a few moments ago so that I could hear it again. I'd go see it if I were you, you'll like how it turns out.
I spent most of the morning keeping an eye on my tile-guys, they have layed the remaining tiles and now those are drying. And they decided to give me a break and won't be here until 8am tomorrow instead of 7:30am to finish up the grouting and then they'll be done, did some fine work once again and make it look so easy. They were outta here by noon and then I went out and raked my entire front yard cuz there were pine needles galour and tree branches and stuff - got an entire bag out of it so guess that it needed it. Then I washed my car by hand as it was filthy and way overdue, bout time I got around to it! I also vacumned it and armour-all'd it and even washed all of the windows. I'm really liking this wax stuff that you spray on while it's still wet and then buff it after it's dry ........ I'm pretty bad about waxing my car and this stuff worked great. I also Rain-X'd the front window and thinking that I'm liking that too as the beads of water just blow off of it (never tried it but heard good things about it). The truck is looking super tonight though, even like driving it better when it's all nice and clean - guess that it feels like a new vehicle again. I almost took the cover off of my truck bed tonight but ran out of time but want to see what it's like driving it without it so I might try that again some day.
I also got a cd (or two) in the mail today from a friend, she heard that I loved James Taylor so she sent me his Greatest Hits, didn't expect it overnight and not even sure when they delivered it but found it on my doorstep tonight ...... thank you very much! I had also wanted to pressure wash the front of my house today but never got around to it - but I guess that I'll just save that for another day. And I guess that's it for this day, I'm still typing this on my desktop in my home-office and usually write this thing on my laptop from the living room so I think that I'll post this and go hang out there for another hour. I'm still loving my new tiles and glad that I went ahead and did it, love my watch and glad that I bought it, love my truck and my chubby puppy dog too - life is good tonight. Enjoy your Sunday. Oh, and my pool cam has been working all day too, maybe it'll cooperate for a while :?)

Hello all and happy Thursday night - and by this time tomorrow we'll have all ready begun the weekend! It's been a couple of pretty uneventful days and didn't have much to report last night, other than Tropical Storm Isidore came through early this morning and we got tons of rain and it was windy as all heck. Definitely not as bad as Hanna was a couple of weeks ago, and slept through most of the worst stuff last night. Today it was just windy, and in between sun and rain it was a pretty ok day. We probably got another 5" of rain I'd have to guess, but no flooding around my homestead but the Bay at work is up to the cart path. It should get better from here on out though, and will probably be an almost decent weekend.
We had our Manager's Outing last night that I went to for an hour or so, at least I had dinner munching on chicken wings and tuna dip :) And the restaurant was right on the Gulf and the waves were really cool, heard at one point they were 15 feet high. I won one of the two door prizes too and won a free weekend in Fort Lauderdale at the Marriott Marina, but it was only good till then end of the year so I gave it to someone that would actually use it. It was kind of fun, if nothing else it got me out of the house on a school night.
Still no sign of my tile-guy and thought that since he didn't come last night he'd be here today, but nope so it's looking more like it'll be another early weekend full of fun. And my tv won't be here this week - probably going to be mid-next week before it shows up as the first two that we ordered a week before arrived yesterday - so if that's the schedule mine will be here next Wednesday or so. Still not sure what I'm going to do with it and where I'm going to put it, and I'll have to figure out what to do with my entertainment center and stereo as right now it's in one of those all-in-one type deals. I'm also figuring that I'll need a new surround sound system to go along with the hi-def tv, and the one's that I've been looking at only come with a DVD player so I might think about getting one of those - dang I've been spending alot of money lately but hey, it beats loosing it in the stock market! And I don't have a DVD, still have a 5 year old vcr so it's almost time to move up, at least I'm thinking about it. Oh, and I'm loving my new watch - it's a sweet little fine instrument.
I guess that's it for now, I finally got the webcam at work up and running (well, most of the time but it still gets stuck now and then), so if you wanna check out the current weather overlooking the pool you can click here, and see what's up in PCB. ER sure is a little graphic tonight, poor Dr. Romamo ain't doing so well - but at least it's a new show, finally it's ready for a new season! And I guess that I'll watch that before I call it a night - so I'll see you all later, sometime over the weekend I'm sure. Good night and have a great Friday.

My trainee cancelled her trip due to inclement weather, as is what's going to happen with most of my business between now and this weekend - but no one really knows what to expect at this point. Other than a bunch of rain, and it's pouring out right now and has been most of the day but I guess that we should get used to it. It was a pretty good day on another front though, got my watch that I ordered from JC Penney today which took me 2 hours trying to figure out how to resize the wristband, but it's done now and I like it. It's a Seiko, owned my last one for at least 10 years (or close to it), so this one is another seiko with lots more features. If you'd like to see what it looks like, you can click here to see it on the JCP page, I'm liking the silver with gold trim more than my old gold one.
I also got my logo back that I've been working on for work polo's, we can't order them from our local source so I came across a company that will make the logo for free and also offers the shirts at a pretty sweet price which I appoved and now they'll start working on the shirts. The logo thing is all due to some lawsuit that's going on where we can't use it - but hey, what are they going to do to me :?) And my tile-guy called tonight and said that he planned on coming over tomorrow to finish up the project so that'll also be sweet! And, and my Director of Engineering thought that my tv might be in by the end of the week if the weather doesn't mess things up - I didn't even know that he ordered it all ready as our Controller had to approve the PO and she's been tied up in budgets for the past month. Life is good ..... some days anyways.
I should buy some water and hurricane supplies as I can just imagine what it's like when the storm is at our backdoor, but not today or tomorrow - but maybe come Sunday :) I ain't leaving no matter how bad it gets, I'll just join Montie in the bathtub and we can amuse each other - heck, it can' t be all that bad :) That's all he wrote tonight, just wanted to let you know that we postponed our training week and will have to reschedule it for a later date, so I'm back to a normal week ...... other than our Manager's Outing at the beach bar tomorrow night (probably in the pouring rain). LATER Gator - stay away from those mashed potaters!!

Monday is done and it's downhill from here :) Kind of an uneventful day, was thinking that I'd pass on commenting today as I really have nothing much to say but I had my laptop on my lap so I decided I might as well jot down a couple of words. Today was fine really, business is doing slightly better than expected and we had a good weekend, the phones are semi-quiet and there is no hurricane in our backyard (yet). I didn't have any homework tonight either so I decided that I'd mess around with our web page at work, had this vision of a scrapbook where everyone that stayed with us over the summer could send in their photos and stories and I'd post them, probably a lame idea that will pass in a couple of days but thought that I'd give it a shot.
I am also in the process of working out a deal with a local booking engine that wants to put 6 new IPIX's up on their site and is willing to trade 20 room nights in exchange and I was finally able to convince my boss that if they met certain requirements (i.e. expiration date, non-sold out days, ect.) that it's worth our while, so I think that they'll buy my offer. I wanna do a wedding ceremony out on the pavillion in addition to the normal ones that I can use to push my wedding business - not really my business but guess that it's our business ..... top line revenue is what it's all about these days! And I think that the photo shoot might happen rather quickly too as he wants to do them this week, so that might make for a busy week putting it all together if it actually happens. We'll see, and if and when I do get them done I'll post a few here as we'll have FULL rights to use them this time, no more of the stuff that I went through with the other files.
And no tile-man to be seen, not that I was expecting him today but I've got his level that he left behind so I know that he'll be back, one of these days soon I hope. My house is all back together though and I'm loving the looks of the new stuff ...... still needs a good cleaning me thinks! The weather is getting better too - and oh, Happy First Day of Fall everyone! The humidity is DEF down today and even though it was the normal 90's, it felt cooler and there was a nice breeze ablowin', fall is coming for us :) My trainee arives tomorrow night but won't see her till Wednesday, I just hope that I'll have enough to keep her busy. I guess that's all that I had to say, more than I thought actually but - what can I say :) Night, have a great Tuesday and I'll talk to you all again sometime soon ...... or LATER! TaTa till another Day!!

Well, the weekend is over and it's back to the ole grind come tomorrow :( And I really didn't get much rest as I was up at the crack of dawn to meet the tile-man each day but on his behalf he was on time or early each day ...... said that he'd be here at 7:30am and he was, nothing more would have ticked me off than if I had gotten up at 7am and he didn't show till 8:30 ...... so that's at least a good thing. And I'm happy to report that about 75% of the project is complete, grouted the stuff that they layed yesterday today and they were outta here by 11:30am - then life returned to pretty much normal as I didn't have to stay off of it all that long. My refrigerator is still sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor as he tiled and grouted where that goes this morning and have to keep off of it until tomorrow, so my kitchen table is sitting next to me in my living room, but life is getting close to being normal again.
He still needs to come back and finish up the front hallway and do my bathroom and he thought that it would either be one of these days this week or again next weekend ....... I'm hoping that he finds the time during the week so that I can sleep next weekend. But then it'll be done and I'm really liking the color scheme of it too, mucho better than the old stuff and should last me for years to come. If you want to check out the pictures of it that I took today, it's at new tile on my webpage. I also redid my pics page on my website today too to make it easier to get to all of the pages, so feel free to check that out sometime too.
I guess that's about it for today and should be a pretty normal week, other than my visitor that's arriving on Tuesday evening. We are also doing a managers outting thing on Wednesday night at a local beach bar which I guess is overdue as it's been more than a year since the last time we did anything like that. So, have a great week and feel free to let me know how things are going with you - k :?) Talk with you again soon, or later if you know what I mean. Good night.

Good night.

Well, my ceramic tile project for the kitchen, hallways and both bathrooms is underway and there were two guys here for about 8 hours, they got here about 7:30 and left around 3:30pm. They got most of the kitchen, one bathroom and the hallway layed out in that thin-set stuff, some type of glue that's spread out and then the tiles are layed down. You can see the kitchen by clicking here! But it has to dry for 24 hours before they can grout it so it still looks a little messed up cuz the cracks aren't filled in yet but I really am liking the new color of it. I hadn't realized how yellow the old tile was but after comparing the new to the old the old stuff definitely has to go!!! You can see the difference in color by clicking here. And another plus that I hadn't realized is that I won't need to chaulk any around the walls as the grout goes right in and fills it all in - I very much disliked the way the chaulk looked so that's now gone too. The difficult part of this whole deal is that I can't get to half of my house and was told not to walk on any of it until at least tomorrow, so I've been struggling trying to do things around it. At least he saved me part of the front door so I can get out, much more and I wouldn't have even been able to do that ..... plus Montie's freeking out that he can't go where he wants to.
I guess that they'll be back at 7:30am again tomorrow to grout it and lay the rest, I still haven't figured out how I'll be able to walk on the part that they grout for another day before it's dry. I definitely didn't want to get up at 7am this morning - and am sure that it'll be even harder to do come tomorrow. I did get the rest of my lawn mowed this afternoon and pressure washed the rest of the back of the house this evening so I'm one beat pup tonight. I do need to figure out if I can do laundry somehow tomorrow, but one way or another I'm sure that I can figure something out. Busy, busy though - so now I must go ..... a nice hot shower sounds mighty fine right about now! Good night till another day :p)~

Short one tonight, it's gonna be an early tiling kind of weekend for the next couple of days. I talked to my tile-guy today and he told me to expect him around 7:30am and that he might need the garage for the tile saw if it's raining - but come rain or shine he'll be here first thing in the morning. And that's gonna make for me an early morning not only tomorrow but probably also on Sunday, and not sure if he can even finish it up in two days or not. I think that I probably would have preferred that they would have done it while I was at work, but oh well I'll have company all weekend so I guess that I need to make the most of it. It'll really suck if it's raining and I can't do anything else outside other than to stand around and watch them - so I'm hoping that it's a nice day for most of the weekend. I still don't know what part of the house I won't have access to due to the tile drying and stuff, but I'm sure that it'll be a major inconvenience for most of the project.
I also mowed the front yard tonight to get it out of the way, and dang if it don't look like crap after whatever they sprayed on it to kill the weeds last week - I'm just hoping that it comes back before it's time to die off for the season. Still need to do the backyard tomorrow and also would like to pressure wash somemore of the house, but I guess that all depends on how the weather cooperates in that department. And speaking of weather, I don't think that we'll see any signs of that hurricane that's brewing until at least Monday or Tuesday, that is if it even heads in our direction as it looked to be heading west but you never can tell. Overall it was a pretty good day though to end the weekend, my Sales Strategy Meeting went fine and I got alot done - at least enough done to call it a week.
I'll try to take some pics tomorrow as the project progresses to let you all know how things are going but don't hold me to it - but if I can make them work then I will - and if I can't well, I won't :) See ya come another day - have a GREAT weekend and I hope that you are enjoying it all ready. Night!

Well, the humps over so that's gotta be a good thing, I'm just hoping that that tropical storm that is headed our way doesn't get here until after the weekend. Looks like a pretty bad one depending on where it goes, and might even turn out to be a hurricane in another day or so. But on the good side it always creates a little excitement around here, plus the standing water in most of the ditches from last week's storm has pretty much dried up! Monday is the first day of Fall and while it don't mean squat for us for another month or so, it is suppose to be a high of only 84' next Thursday ...... that would be a perfect day!
Still no sign of my tile-guy but I can wait, been working on this project or at least thinking about it for months now so I can wait a few more days and it's looking like it'll be a weekend project this weekend - I just hope that he remembers me come Saturday. And I ended up ordering a HD 55" wide screen Philips tv today and should arrive in another week, I couldn't pass up this opportunity that landed at my feet right at the same time I was thinking about buying one. Our connection that only sells to hotels and institutions (like the warehouse type) is getting it for me at the same time that we are buying 356 32" tv's for all of the rooms, plus two wide screens for the bar so we just added this one on at the same discounted price, 40% off retail if I calculated it right. I did find a few websites that sold the same model for a couple of hundred off retail but then they wanted $300 for shipping, so any way that you look at it there is no way that I would find this tv for this price - probably never again in my lifetime. Funny how it worked out, I was looking at them and then this deal comes along, the world works in a mysterious way sometimes. Now I just have to figure out where I'm going to put it, and I know that my Chief Engineer will get his guys to deliver and unload it once it hits the dock.
I was also almost able to get our hotel webcam going again but it's stumped me, I crawled up in the attic of the building overlooking our pool and thought that the modem probably got fried with lightning or something - but everything looked fine when I switched off the power surge strip and flipped it back on. And when I got back to my office it had taken one picture but then froze up again, and normally I could reset it from a fuse box in the maintenence closet which is nice and easy to get to. But that doesn't work anymore just turning off the fuse and back on ...... but we might have figured it out that it might have something to do with the power strip not resetting right without actually turning it off - more news at 11 if you know what I mean. I get all of the e-mail off of our website and I've been getting some really frustrated viewers who have been checking it out for like 3 months now and it's still been down, one e-mail that I got yesterday gave me the motivation to figure it out. If you want to see the one shot that the camera took today, click here but there is some black spot on the lens that I'll have to figure out how to clean off once I get it up and running.
I also found out that I'll have a trainee next week for a few days to entertain, the "me" from Jacksonville is coming over to see what tips she might pick up and will be here Tuesday through Thursday, at least it's a short enough stay where I should be able to keep her busy. My boss is there temporarily (well, kind of) playing GM so he thought that it would be a good idea, guess it's not a bad one any ways. I also went out and raked up sticks and pine needles off the lawn tonight, it still looks like crap and think that my Trugreen people might have overdone the weed killer a tad bit, but at least I can say that it wasn't me this time ...... now I only pay for my lawn to look that way!
I'm ready for my Sales Strategy meeting pretty much and business is looking up - so that's a good tone to begin the meeting with. And I don't think that I reported on my conference call to review our Prelim 2003 Budget #'s ...... 32 minutes and it was done and just a few minor changes to say that they "said to do it". And that's it for another day, it'll all be downhill into the weekend from here and I might even have a new floor to photograph, well that is if I keep my fingers crossed (but I'll be sure to post some pics if and when it does happen!). Good night from the Florida Panhandle - talk WITH you all again sometime soon. Nite - ME (whatever!!!!)

Hey, hey it's starting off to be another one of those weeks again! We realized today that our conference call with Corporate is tomorrow and not on Wednesday so we practiced the call today. And it would have been kind of funny had we not realized it beforehand, I could just see us scrambling to assemble the troups when the call came in. But that makes for a really bad day tomorrow as I've got that which will last at least an hour, then Forecast Meeting and then Staff Meeting which got postponed from last week cuz my GM couldn't make it so I know that's it's gotta be this week. Gotta a couple of extra meetings this week besides those, it's just gonna be one of those weeks me thinks!
And no sign of the tile guy but I kind of expect to come home one of these days to find the project underway, he's got the key to the place and told me he'd get to it this week if he could, otherwise it'd be this weekend. I did clear out the closets in the hallway though in preparation so he really should have nothing too major to move (unless of course you call the stove, refrig & toliets major :?), I don't know if he works alone or not. It'll be good to have it behind me, getting kind of excited about seeing it finished. I'm also giving my wide screen tv one more run, as we are installing all new 32" Philips tv's in all of our rooms right now and we also bought a new wide screen for our sports bar, I don't like the one that we bought for that but think that we've got a pretty good connection with them right now so I'm going to see how they do on pricing for the one that I want. We'll see where it goes, but if it does work out I'll have to chaulk another one up to my Chief Engineer ...... I owe him SO many favors that I've lost count!
My Chemlawn guys came today but didn't have too much to say but my lawn is starting to look like crap again and he said that he really went after the weeds so I'm not sure if that's it, plus he applied insect killer all over the lawn - just not too sure what kind of insects he was trying to get rid of. I turned my sprinklers back on to the regular mode per his advise, not sure if the lawn needs it yet but guess that it can't hurt. I should get out there and mow the front lawn, but haven't gotten to that yet. At least I did get around to washing my truck last evening as the thing was filthy, didn't spend a whole lot of time detailing it as it got dark before I was done ...... didn't I say that by buying this one I'd def take better care of it :?) I'm really looking forward to cooler weather - as I'm really over being drenched just walking out the door with this heat and humidity ....... and trust me, today was another HOT one.
Well, till another day I'm going to run for now, Crossing Jordan is on and guess that it's a repeat - although I'm not sure that I've seen it so I'll kick back and watch that for a bit. So, until the next time, take care till then ...... Nito from the Scotto (and Montie gives you a whoof and me the evil eye for even spending time on this thing! :o)~

The sun finally came back out this afternoon, rained all day yesterday and all night long and was even raining this morning when I got up ...... figure that we probably got 6" or so over the weekend. But Hanna (my sister :?) is gone now, she's moved north so she is probably still dropping rain on those people, but at least they didn't have it all weekend like we did! At least I got alot of sleep this weekend, slept in yesterday morning and then got up, only to go back to bed for another hour since I had nothing better to do with my day. I then took a nap last evening too, and slept in again this morning - guess I needed a day or two once in a while with nothing better to do. At least I have my energy back - even cleaned the house ahead of schedule today and that doesn't normally happen.
I tried to pressure wash the backside of my house yesterday and I thought that the rain had stopped as it hadn't rained for a while, but after I got everything set up I had about 10 minutes of dryness before it started to pour on me. Montie even got soaked and ran into the garage for cover, at least that's where he was when I finally gave up and dragged everything back inside again. I did get about half of it done and kept going while it was raining on me as I was getting wet anyhow so it really didn't matter. I'll still have to finish the other half some other day - just not today. And at least I got my backyard mowed on Friday evening before the storm got here, still haven't done the front yard but it's not too long yet so I might be able to wait till next weekend. I had to go out today and clean out my driveway as I had a big-ole-bag full of pine needles and branches to pick up, luckily nothing too big came down. I still need to rake the pine needles off the lawn as they are at least two inches thick - but that'll also have to be another day as it wasn't today. Hot again too, near 90' and still can't wait for things to cool off a little bit.
My doorbell rang tonight and when I answered it I at first didn't recognize the guy but he seemed to know me. Then I realized it was my tile-guy Jerry who was stopping over to let me know that he planned on installing my tile next weekend if not sooner. I guess that the job he's on now is outside doing a patio or something and can't work in the rain, so depending on the weather he might even start sometime this week - otherwise it'll be next weekend at the latest. I wasn't expecting him that soon though, was going to give him another week and give him another call, so it was a pleasant surprise to see him.
I guess that's it for tonight and it should be a busy week, we've got our conference call with our Corporate Office to review our rates and occupancies for the 2003 budget on Wednesday and I have to sit in and possibly "participate", and that also means that we have to practice what we might say on Tuesday, other than that I'm not sure what the week will hold. So, until another day, take care and have a GREAT week. Hey, have you tried those Listerine breath strip things - they're pretty wild how they melt in your mouth! Good night till another day.

Hello and Happy Thursday from Me :) At least I'm happy to report that our Rates and Occupancies for Budget '03 have been shipped off to the Corporate Office today so we can't be changing them before the conference call to review them next Wednesday!!! And they are making me sit in on the call but hopefully I won't have to say anything, just sit back and watch the "stuff", not sure what the word is that I'm trying to think of. And Sales Strategy Meeting went well today too, business is still doing ok and we had a good booking week for the next couple of months which we really needed ...... so there is still hope for us yet :)
And tomorrow is FRIDAY, yahooooo. We've got this Fam that our Sales Department is doing and it exploded into like 70 meeting planners and spouses, usually they try to keep it at like 30 rooms but I'm not too sure how this one got so out of hand. The good news is that I don't have to do a thing for it - the bad news is that there is a Tropical Storm brewing in the Gulf and headed right for us and is suppose to be here by tomorrow night with up to 6" of rain being dumped on us with winds of 35 mph and will probably last through Saturday, bummer that most of the FAM activities are scheduled to be outdoors. That's why my Regional is coming this weekend too and should get in tonight if they don't cancel her flight from Atlanta into town but it wouldn't be surprised if that happens as it's always 50/50. If she does end up making it like I said a day or two ago she wants to meet with me, probably nothing but the mind has a weird way of reading too much into things. "Whatever" as a friend of mine says, and guess that I'll find out soon enough what she has in mind.
I also tried to call my brother last night after I wrote my thing but it was weird that there was no answer as it had to be at least 10:30 for him but he's not usually in bed yet, but maybe they turned the ringer off for the baby - might try again tonight. I've also been whipped this week and guess that it's been the budget thing, came home tonight and usually a 30 minute nap snaps me back into things but tonight I haven't been able to wake back up from my little nappie-nap. Guess I just need to sleep in once with nothing to do - and if it rains all day Saturday I might not have a choice, but my grass is growing leaps and bounds every day so I've got to get it mowed sometime this weekend. Other than that I don't have too much, guess I'll see what "pops" up between now and then.
I hope that you also have a wonderful weekend, and I'll talk to you again sometime in a day or two ....... take care till then :) Good night once again from Panama City Beach.

Well, we survived the day and I'm grateful that nothing happened today, out of the ordinary anyway. I was a little bummed that we did nothing at work to commemorate the day, just the same ole, same ole and I shared that special moment at 8:46am (7:46am for us!) listening to a moment of silence with those on the radio but that was about it for the day. I did do alot of thinking though, about that day and the year since - and I think that we've gotten so much stronger by going through it.
And it was a busy day again, tried to prep for my Sales Strategy Meeting but there was a bunch of stuff going on, plus I got pulled into the final rate & occupancy review before we send it off to corporate tomorrow, only to find that the 500 rooms that they had me pull out two days ago needed to go back in. But I did that tonight without too much trouble, plus got most of my stuff ready for my meeting too. They gave me the option to postpone Strategy Meeting till Friday if I needed it, but I'd rather get it over with tomorrow. My Regional is at our hotel this weekend and comes in tomorrow, said she wants to meet with me on Friday but I thought that she was here for vacation ...... so that can't be a good thing :?)~
I watched Dateline earlier tonight which was an hour on the Air Traffic Controllers and their day on the 11th, DEF puts a whole new perspective on what they do day in and day out. And now I'm watching a benefit concert on VH1 right now, guess it's like 5 hours long but I won't make that - but James Taylor is singing "I've seen fire & I've seen rain" right now and love that song, but dang if he ain't looking older - but then again I guess that we probably all are.
I guess that's about it for tonight, just wanted to write and say hey - so HEY :) I think that I should call my brother as I haven't talked to him since I was up there a month ago and see what's up with him - that is if he's not travelling to Atlanta this week but I doubt that he would be. And just think - we've made it over the hump so it's downhill from here ...... so I'll talk to you again somewhere from the bottom of it. And Mr. Taylor is now singing "Up on the Roof", another classic :o)~ Good night, and I thank God that he was looking out for all of us today - many, many more days like today to follow ........ thanks for listening.
I feel really sad remembering everything that happened almost a year ago, 8:46am I believe a year ago today, but to keep the date straight we'll say that it's tomorrow. Life changed for all of us that day - and will never be the same. God bless all of those that lost their lives for no reason what so ever one year ago, and even more importantly for all the lives that were lost trying to help save the one's that needed help the most. And to everyone else, keep your head held high and remember - we're in the bestest country that there is ....... dang I wish that they could find Bin Laden. Watching some of this on tv tonight feels like it was only yesterday, and that was a very sad day to say the least. Good night.

Hey, Monday's done so how much more is there to say, right :?) And not too bad of a day, had to make some minor changes to my budget but it was only to drop 1,000 rooms and add $3.00 in rate where the revenues stayed the same - pretty darn good for my first stab in the dark :) And tonight I had to write the Transient Rate & Occupancy Assumptions and if I don't say so myself I thought that they were pretty darn good - just kind of flowed out of me. So, the worst is over with that, a few more fine tunings here and there and I'll be done for another year.
I got quiet a bit accomplished today and think that the week might go all right, it's looking like it should be pretty normal except for the monthly All-Manager's Staff Meeting tomorrow which always kills the afternoon, plus the big people want to have a meeting in the morning to "bring all of the brains that be" together for one final review of the budget before we ship it off for the corporate stamp of approval, kind of humorous how the whole process works. And I certainly am glad that someone thought enough of my complaining about all of those stupid shows that overtook my prime time tv, and 3rd Watch is back and so is Crossing Jordan - they're repeats but at least it's not the "bring my boyfriends over to meet my folks" junk so I'm very happy about that - second week in a row now and only two more weeks and the new shows begin!
I guess that's about all that I've got for tonight though, feel free to leave me a comment about anything any time anyone is ready - and I'll talk with you again sometime real soon (and I've been trying to change my ending of my e-mails from "talk to you again" with "talk with you again", I know it's piddly but I think that it's a much more polite thing to say - wouldn't you agree :?) Good night, have a great Tuesday and then the week will be downhill from there.

Life is too short ain't it - and them weekends are even shorter ...... not nearly enough time to get anything done anyways. It was another hot one, at least 90' every day but got the lawn done yesterday (and Friday evening, got the backyard done then as I knew I had a bunch of stuff to do on Saturday). It's still looking ok, still have some brown spots to clear up but think that I might have been overwatering it so I cut it back to every other day. I even mowed my neigbor's lawn too, as I said my lawn only looks as good as their lawn - and also mowed the backyard of the girl that slipped me the $20 a few weeks ago, figure that I owe her at least two more times as it only takes about five minutes. I also found out that the family that lives right next to me, the guy works in Security at my hotel and hadn't put two and two together before I saw him yesterday - then I'm like, I know you!!! Small world for sure, but it goes to show you how much I've seen of them as they've lived there for 3 months and I'm just figuring it out.
I also picked up my ceramic tile on Saturday and have it stored in one of my rooms, 18 boxes of the stuff and trust me, it ain't light. I talked to my tile-guy yesterday and it might be a few weeks before he can fit me in, said that he was working day & night with his current projects and wasn't sure when he could get to me. I've come to accept it, he'll get to it when he can get to it and the best things come to those that wait for it. Oh, and my tile is quite a bit lighter than my current floor - I thought that it was close when I was at the store but laying it out it's a totally different color. If you want to check it out, you can click here and see the current floor next to the new tiles, but just note that the color of the pic sucks as well as the quality of my webcam. I think that I'll like it though with a darker grout, guess I won't know for sure until it's too late ...... kind of scary actually.
Oh, and that reminds me, I got my webcam thing working where it will upload my pictures automatically at the set time so I was messing with that this weekend, and if you are lucky enough you might even find me on some night. It's the webcam link at the top of my page - or you can click here And I've been one beat pup all day as three others from work and myself went out to dinner last night and then went to see the band "The Clutch" at the Breakers, it was definitely a different evening which is good I guess. But it was 1am before we got home and 2am before I got to bed, and didn't even sleep in all that late today so I've been kind of dragging all day. Guess I can't do those late nights like I used to, guess that means that I'm an old man. And the band was pretty kewl, they've been playing together for the last 20 years and do mostly 50's, 60's & 70's stuff, lots of Elvis and Rod Stewart and that kind of stuff - it was almost like theater with all of the costumes and stuff.
And Montie and I did the haircuts yesterday, he went first and then it was my turn, and Paula his stylist even drove by my house on her way back from lunch right when I was taking him up there, and she offered to drop him off here when he was done as he was her last appointment - thought that was kind of nice. She loves him though and I'm lucky to find someone like her that treats him so well, he lost at least 20 pounds of hair since yesterday. The picture on my home page is him after his doo, took it this morning while I was taking a pic of the floor tiles with him sitting under my kitchen chair ...... he hates to have his picture taken so he looks rather depressed.
I'm not quite sure what this week will hold as the budget thing is coming down to the wire, plus it's a busy week and are even sold out on September 11th, hoping that it stays that way. I got out of having to work on the budget as our Controller needed to take it home with her to figure out some formula errors, so I lucked out there now didn't I :?) And I guess that I'll report more tomorrow, well maybe :) Night and have a GREAT week - I'm sure that it's going to be a rough one come Wednesday for all of us. God Bless and be proud to be an American - hang your flag come Wednesday morning, k (if you haven't all ready). Good night!!!

All goes well in the world tonight and only one more day and it'll be the weekend! My Sales Strategy Meeting which should have been at 2pm today got postponed till 10am tomorrow due to my GM being off property at a meeting all day but didn't find that out until I was pretty much all set to go! But I did act quick on my feet and took the opportunity to come home and get as much of the budget done as I could so that I wouldn't end up doing it all weekend, and I'm happy to report that I pretty much whipped it all out. I still need to work out some of the finer details and have the "big people" review it and let me know what they think is the least that I can get away with showing. Then I'll probably be able to do most of the changes tomorrow at work, but whatever I don't get done I'll have to finish up over the weekend. It sure was nice to work at home for once as I can get so much more done in such a short amount of time ...... hmm, that would be my ultimate life someday :)
Montie seemed to enjoy it too, even though he was giving me that evil eye all the time that I was working. And speaking of Montie, he sure ain't much of a watchdog as I walked in today and turned off the beeping alarm, walked around the house and turned on my computer, then finally decided that it was time to wake his sleeping butt up off of the middle of the living room floor. I somehow don't think that his hearing is all that it used to be, but hey - I don't see as well as I used to either :)
I got this glass wind chime from my friend yesterday in the mail as a token of her appreciation for me watching her hotels while she was on vacation last week and hung it from my ceiling in my office above my desk. So all day everyone was admiring it and ringing it, at least it doesn't move all too much where it's hanging! They are still all wondering where it came from, and the funny part is there is a card attached to it from the people that made it who signed it - so I just tell everyone that they sent it (and most people actually believe it!). I also got this funny powerpoint file today via e-mail, something about Sony testing a program to turn your monitor into a webcam and it'd take your picture, then when the pic is ready it comes up with this big-eared freak ...... one of my girls in the office is so gulable that she took off her glasses and fluffed up her hair thinking that it was actually going to take her picture ....... it was funny while it lasted!
Not too much planned for this weekend but thinking that it's suppose to rain, Eduardo has moved across Florida and is now in the Gulf of Mexico. While it's not much of a storm that's left - there is probably enough to dump a few inches of rain on us anyways. I need to go pick up my tile on Saturday too before they sell it to someone else, and that reminds me to try and call my tile guy to see when he might be able to fit me in. Haircut day on Saturday for me and the Monto too, other than that no major plans except one of the girls from work is trying to get me to do dinner and a show on Saturday night (Clutch, some 60's & 70's show, guess it's like theater). We'll see, I just don't enjoy leaving my boy alone anymore than I have to.
And that's it, been working on a pc ever since I got up this morning (what's new, right :?), but that reminds me that I tried to reinstall the RAM that I took out yesterday as my pc was working so wonderfully without it that I figured there must be something wrong, but as soon as I put in the other 128 meg chip it went right back to being a piece of crap ..... so I took it back out and my pc at work is working great - weirdest thing I've seen but I'll live with the 192 meg that I have and forget the other 128 - works mucho better without it anyways. I still need to explain all of this to my MIS gal, I'm sure that she's not going to be happy with me for even removing the cover!!! What's a guy to do, I'm just trying to make it work it's bestestestestestestestest ..... sorry, got stuck there :) Night, TGIF!

Dang, it's all ready starting out to be one of those weeks but on the brighter side of things it's all ready Wednesday tomorrow. We finally got around to deciding when our budget is due and when who was going to do what, and with all my luck I get to work on my numbers starting on Friday - at least they were kind enough to give me the weekend to finish it before it's due on Monday :( And we are getting a ton of last minute group bookings, not sure if someone has been dragging their feet in getting it to us but it just seems way too much of a coincidence that they just found all of this business coming in next week. But hey, it's business so I guess that I shouldn't complain, at least it's keeping my office nice and busy!
I got a call today that my tile was in all ready, seems that they found some in the warehouse and didn't have to order it, and I called my tile-guy but he was going to call me back sometime to let me know when he might find time in his schedule to fit me in. I just hope that he doesn't take weeks, but guess that there's no real hurry to go and pick it up until I hear that he can even make time for it. The good news is that it's in, and it was certainly a pleasure to deal with a company who treats you so well.
I guess that's about it for tonight - on a happier note my lawn is starting to look SUPER again, got most of the holes filled in and after mowing it yesterday it is really looking great driving in tonight! Well, that's it, night for now and I hope you have a GREAT Hump :)

Well, it looks like our holiday weekend is over and everything is back to normal, back to work in the morning anyways :( And dang if I didn't mess up my weekend schedule as I finally ended up mowing the lawn about 6pm tonight but got it done just before it got too dark to see what I was doing. Went and got groceries too and got just about everything done ...... finally! I even went back to Circuit City for one more look at the tv, and was pretty sure that I was going to buy it if I could fit it into the back of my truck, but unfortunately there was no way that that was going to happen. I finally decided that if I couldn't have it today that I wasn't going to buy it, I can always have it delivered (for another $40) but not right now, guess that the urge has passed. I also need to do some more research to make sure that the one that I was looking for is the best there is for the money as I didn't like some of the consumer ratings that I had read - just need more time to look into it. I guess that there is a problem with regular tv and high definition and don't think that they have all the bugs worked out quite yet, at least from what I was reading that was half of the problem.
Not much else to report though other than this coming weekend Montie needs a haircut, not sure if I'm up for mine but guess that I need to check my palm on that. I was thinking that I might try and drop him off at noon some afternoon and then pick him up when I get out of work instead of making him spend all Saturday afternoon there and not hanging out with me, just a thought but think that I should at least try it. I also need to get ahold of my tile-guy and see if he can fit me into his schedule sometime hopefully next week, I should be able to go and pick up my stuff Friday night or Saturday morning.
I guess that's it for tonight, hope that all is well in the world and I'll talk to you again sometime in the near future. Take care till then, and good night from Panama City Beach :o)

Happy Labor Evening 2002 everyone, and while I was thinking about that a little bit ago I'm not even too sure what this holiday is all about - is it there to honor all of us working stiffs or what? Most of the holidays are set up to honor past veterans, or birthdays or something like that - is this one just to honor those who do what they do day in and day out? Come on and comment, I'd love to hear what it's all about. It hasn't been too bad a long weekend though, must admit that I've been totally unmotivated all weekend and guess it's due to the extra day off (Monday) as I keep saying "well, I can do that tomorrow". Haven't even mowed my lawn but did do most of the housecleaning today - but still have to go and get groceries tomorrow too.
I went to the movies tonight with a couple of people from work, was more of a matinee than this evening and can't even remember the name of it ....... the Road to Something with Tom Hanks and wasn't too bad - at least it had a good ending but was still kind of sad. After that I headed to Circuit City and checked out wide screen tv's that I got an e-mail on that they were having on sale, looked at one that was 53" high definition and was really pretty cool, and I thought that it was also pretty reasonably priced. I decided that I needed to think about it though and walked away, but might have to go back tomorrow as the sale ends tomorrow. I was thinking later that my current tv must be nearing 10 years old, and it's only a 27" magnavox so it's about time for a new one. If I do end up buying one, then I'd have to figure out what to do with my stereo as it's all in the entertainment center - and with a new big screen it DEF wouldn't fit where my current one is ....... hmm.
Oh, and I found the perfect ceramic floor tile on Saturday at the store that I was telling you about, what a difference it makes when they actually want your business. They had tons of $ .99 tiles to choose from, so I found what I wanted at 1/3 of the price as the stuff I was looking at at the other store. I ordered it and guess that it'll be here on Wednesday or Thursday and will probably pick it up sometime next weekend. Now I just have to coordinate the install job with my guy and hope that it won't take forever to get it over and done with. My sales lady at the store gave me the option to bring one of the tiles home to see what it would look like but I didn't want to second guess myself, but wish that I would have so that I could post a picture of it on here ...... but now you'll have to wait to see what it looks like and I've decided to document the installation on here so look for that coming soon (I hope!).
I also spent the weekend trying to revive a computer that one of my friends from work bought for like $100, it's running Win95 and got it working ok and he picked it up today - but it still has some issues that I couldn't resolve (but might have given more time). Worked on my budget some too yesterday but my "Go to My PC" has really been ticking me off, locks up on me after only a couple of minutes. Still got alot of work to do tomorrow, hoping to do that over coffee in the morning.
Oh, and this town sure is alot slower than a normal holiday weekend, traffic is almost normal and bet that most of the hotels aren't even sold out. We've got the GA Baptists with us and has us sold out Friday - Sunday night, although it was pretty ugly with 330 rooms checking in Friday night (with like 6 ppl per room) they're here, and bet that any of the other hotels would love to have them. Ended the month right about where I projected with revenues, and while it's ugly I gave everyone plenty of advance warning. And my vacationing friend from VA is back tomorrow and I can't wait to turn her two hotels back over to her, watching four hotels is almost too much so I'm glad that it was only temporary.
And I guess that's it for tonight, one more day before the weekend is over and then it's a short week from there ...... although we'll pay by squeezing five days of work into four days, but it's all worth it ...... and I hope to talk to you all again. Take care, honor the Laborer's tomorrow and if you are one, then kick back and enjoy YOUR day. Night!

Night!
